Meet one of the talented employees on Bell Helicopter’s Innovation Team…
When asked the definition of the word Innovation, Andrea Chavez responded, “Instead of accepting current technology available as just the way things are, you can allow yourself to create something that will improve technology and make life easier for people.”
The University of Texas, Austin graduate began working for Bell Helicopter 13 years ago. Chavez has worked within engineering her entire career at Bell and moved to the Innovation Team over a year ago when the team was formed. Her role within the Innovation Team is to oversee contracted research and to coordinate with external companies and suppliers to work on future research and testing opportunities to advance future aircraft.
Chavez describes her experience working in the Innovation Team as positive and refreshing. She stated, “your voice and ideas are always heard” and to be an innovative company, you must have the right minds and cultivate a vision into creating exceptional products.
Just like any job, there are some challenges. Chavez claims, “when working on a project, we are constantly testing new technologies and it can be difficult not to take things personally when something fails; however, it is through those failures that sometimes more valuable information is discovered. You begin to understand the limitations of what you are testing and can focus on the root cause of the failure and improve from that. It is the culmination of successes and failures that define boundaries to ensure that a new technology will improve an aircraft.”
She is excited to explore the roles of management and looks forward to creating and testing new technologies for the company. Andrea is one example of our talented employees from around the company demonstrating a renewed focus on innovation, and we are proud of her leadership and contributions to Bell Helicopter.
