FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 24, 2009) - Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc.. (NYSE: TXT) company, today announced that its 429 helicopter has been certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for flight. Previously the 429 has been certified by Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Bell 429 is the first rotorcraft in the world to receive approval of its maintenance program by EASA as well.
"We have been working with EASA during the development phase of this program so this certification is the culmination of a lot of hard work from all the parties involved," said Neil Marshall, Bell's 429 program director. "It's a great day for the 429, Bell Helicopter and our European customers."
The 429 is a new light twin helicopter and Bell believes it should do well in the European market. Many of the design features of the helicopter were developed with input from customer advisory boards and the result is a highly flexible cabin space that can be customized to individual customer requirements whether that be as an air ambulance, supporting off-shore operations, VIP transport or other applications.
Bell has conducted hundreds of demonstration flights for potential customers and has repeatedly received positive comments about the cockpit lay-out, flight qualities, and cabin volume.
