Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This document provides answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Must I remain or become Electronic Commerce capable?

Yes. Bell Helicopter Textron is requiring that each supplier be electronic commerce capable.

Must I use ESIS?

NO, Bell Helicopter Textron has contracted with ESIS to host their web-based EDI alternative. They will also be responsible for the rollout of new trading partners. It is not necessary to switch to ESIS.

Must I use the Internet?

No, Bell Helicopter Textron will not dictate the method of electronic commerce you choose, only require that you are electronic commerce capable.

Can I continue to use a VAN or a Service bureau?

Yes. That is a business decision you need to make. If you are doing business with other companies than Bell Helicopter Textron, that are not ESIS hubs, it may be more cost effective to use traditional EDI, or a service bureau. If you integrate EDI into your business processes, ESIS may not be your best choice.

Should I use the Harmony Order Management (HOM) system?

The HOM system is designed to meet a Bell Helicopter Textron business need. It allows your business to meet our electronic commerce requirement with a nominal investment. This system is designed for a business that has no plans to integrate EDI. The system provides an inexpensive method of "rip and read" electronic commerce. For a number of our suppliers, this is a reasonable alternative.

If I am already EDI active, will anything change?

Yes. If you are currently EDI active you have to make several changes. For a list of required changes visit the "Currently active suppliers" section of this web site.

What will it cost me?

The cost for processing Bell Helicopter Textron data in the HOM system is being paid by Bell Helicopter Textron at this time. You will need an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a browser. If you process data from other companies, who are not ESIS hubs, you will be charged $150.00 per month.

Can I choose more than one option?

Yes. You may continue to receive traditional EDI and use the Harmony Order Management system to process EDI sent from Bell Helicopter Textron as desired.

Will I notice any changes?

Yes. There will be a few changes in the data you receive. The most noticeable is that we will be migrating to ANSI x12 version 4010 standards. We will also be changing our ISA and GS ID's. The new 4010 implementation guides are available on this web site.

Who do I call if there are problems, or I have questions?

You call ESIS. If you have data problems, need a transaction resent, or are missing a functional acknowledgement, you will contact ESIS. The contact information is available on this site.
